FIRE HORSE SAVES CHRISTMAS!
And just in time!
Set in the early 1900's, CHRISTMAS MAJOR is a heartwarming story about an abandoned orphan and a spirited young colt unwittingly linked by an uncommon occurrence that brings them together to save lives and care for others. Readers will learn about the exciting world of fire horses, and travel back in time to an era when these mighty steeds were so dedicated and loyal that they would obediently pull huge fire wagons straight towards their greatest fear---the perilous ravages of fire!
This inspirational story was written and illustrated by Fire Department Historian/Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) retired fire captain, Dave Hubert.
After spending over 30 years as a firefighter, Dave retired and restored a vintage, horse-drawn steam fire engine much like the one featured in CHRISTMAS MAJOR. After years of fire service history research, Dave was overwhelmed by the many fascinating and untold stories of the heroic fire horses and lively Dalmatian fire dogs that served and protected early America. Dave says the book was inspired by the fact that he "feels the great fire horses of yesteryear have never been given enough credit for their unceasing bravery in the face of life-threatening fires."
Filled with many historical facts and over 50 watercolor illustrations, CHRISTMAS MAJOR is much more than a Christmas story. It is an adventure about character, loyalty, love, firefighting and the magical bond between humans and animals.
