Donald R. Beaver, who began his career with the Los Angeles City Fire Department in 1952, and retired from the department's Fire Prevention Bureau in 1978, passed away July 16. Mr. Beaver was involved with California State Firefighters' (then called California State Firemen's Association) nearly his entire career and remained so after retirement.
Beginning in 1966 Don was a member of CSFA's Ways and Means Committee (later renamed the Finance Committee) where he served until becoming a CSFA Southern Division Deputy Director in 1976. He was Deputy Director until January 1985. He was a regular fixture and voting delegate for the Los Angeles Fire Department into the early 1990s, and authored many CSFA Conference resolutions, some of which, through CSFA political efforts, eventually became law. Significant among these was a resolution introduced at the 1984 CSFA Conference that called for CalPERS to provide an annual report to all members.
According to the Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association, he was honored by Los Angeles Fire Department as Fireman of the Year in 1977.
