CSFA’s Political Action Committee (PAC)

The mission of CSFA’s Political Action Committee (PAC) is to help educate firefighters and fire departments regarding the political process. The PAC works closely with CSFA’s Legislative Advocate on policy and legislative matters. The PAC trustees also offer several political services to members:

Forming your own PAC - CSFA Pac Trustees and CSFA staff can help to organize own local political action committee.

Local campaign funding grants - Fire Agencies that have 100 percent membership in CSFA are able to access PAC funding for local elections, tax measures and other local issues that are important to your fire agency. Apply for PAC funding here.

Campaign Management/Consulting - CSFA PAC Trustees are available to help with local campaigns, providing the best strategies for victory. Trustees can also offer fund-raising advice to strengthen local PACs and present campaign tactics to maximize candidate effectiveness.

Political Action Seminars - Upon request, CSFA PAC Trustees will present one-day political activity seminars for a department.

CSFA has both a Legislative Committee and Political Action Committee (PAC) that works in close coordination with the Fire Service Leadership Council acting as your voice as a trade Association at the state capitol. Our legislative committee is led by Matt Epstein and the Legislative Committee

CSFA PAC and local political funding grants

CSFA’s Political Action Committee (PAC) can assist fire agencies with forming local PACs, campaign consulting and political action seminars. Fire Agencies that have 100 percent CSFA membership are able to access PAC funding for local elections, tax measures and issues that are important to your fire agency.  CSFA allocates 5% if its annual budget to political action, please contact our Political Action Chair, Vern Losh on how we can help you address local issues specific to your agency .

Political Coordination

Political Coordination with the California Fire Service Leadership Council which includes top leadership from the California Fire Chiefs Association, Fire District Association of California, League of California Cities Fire Department Section, Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association, Contract Counties Fire Departments, FIRESCOPE, California Professional Firefighters and CSFA.  This group reviews statewide issues and becomes involved in coordinated legislative efforts, development of white papers that address specific issues, engages as appropriate in litigation and ultimately coordinates strategic direction of current and emerging fire service issues.

CSFA Legislative Monitoring

Working closely with other statewide fire organizations, CSFA monitors all legislation that effects directly or indirectly our profession.  The Legislative Committee and Board of Directors receives immediate updates during the legislative session on all bills that would impact California fire agencies.  We engage in collaborative efforts to ensure that the voices of our membership are heard at a statewide and local level.

Statewide Fire Service Representation

CSFA has secured through legislative efforts, specific direct representation on the State Board of Fire Services, Statewide Training and Education Advisory Committee (STEAC) and state EMS Commission to name just a few.  We also have representation on national standards-making bodies (NFPA 1500 and NFPA 2400) and the National Volunteer Fire Council.
