FEMA to open second round of COVID-19 response grants

The application process for a second round of federal firefighter assistance grants is expected to open later this year, according to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA).

FEMA is offering another opportunity for fire departments to apply for money to pay for personal protective equipment and other supplies through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant—COVID-19 Supplemental Program. Although the application period hasn't been determined, it's expected to open in October according to the USFA.

The FEMA program offers grants to volunteer and combination fire departments to buy essential supplies during the pandemic. Departments that received grants during the first round are eligible to apply again, but new applications must support new capabilities, according to the USFA.

For applicants interested in learning how to apply for funding under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Programs (AFGP), the US Fire Administration offers grant application webinars.
