LODD: Captain Chris Mertz; CSFA Pipes and Drums member passes from Covid-19

It is with great sadness we announce the LODD of Captain Chris Mertz from Covid-19 related complications.  Captain Mertz was a 30-year member of the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District.  He held the positions of Firefighter/EMT, Engineer and Captain.  He worked with USAR and was deployed to New York City during 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He was 54.  Chris was also a tenor drummer and was a member of the CSFA Pipes and Drums.  He was instrumental in the development of the CSFA band since its inception in 2014. Chris leaves behind his wife Canli and his three children Garrett, Natalie and Roxanne.  His daughters are in the U.S. Air Force and his son is a firefighter with Cal Fire San Diego. Captain Chris Mertz will be dearly missed, may God Bless him and his family.

The Funeral for Capt. Chris Mertz will take place this Saturday, February 6th at noon at the
North Coast Church
2405 North Santa Fe Ave.
Vista, CA.

The CSFA Pipes and Drums and Bugler will play during the funeral. The CSFA Purple Heart Award for Chris, nominated by Director Ray Ramirez, will be presented to the family by Bill Hoffman.
