Founded in 1922, the California State Firefighters’ Association (CSFA) is the Golden State’s leading fire service trade association, representing thousands of fire service professionals from every facet of the fire service. We are committed to building a resilient community for all of California’s emergency responders,embodying the values of collaboration, advocacy, and the relentless pursuit of excellence in advancing the field of fire service.
Our Purpose:
At CSFA, our purpose is to foster and promote a better understanding among our diverse membership, elected and appointed officials, regulatory and allied fire service organizations, and the public. We strive to encourage professional training and establish life safety standards designed to continuously improve California’s fire service.
History:
In 1922, a group of passionate firefighters gathered in Fresno to discuss the state of the fire service in California. Recognizing the need for a unified effort to protect the public from fire and enhance working conditions for firefighters, they established the California State Firefighters’ Association (CSFA).
Over the years, CSFA has grown to include over 10,000 members, consisting of paid, volunteer, military, and industrial firefighters. Over a century of collective endeavors by CSFA have demonstrated its pivotal role in benefitting firefighters and elevating public safety to new heights.
Leadership:
The CSFA is led by a dedicated Board of Directors who serve as the driving force behind the organization and share a deep commitment to advancing the fire service. Our directors are elected to office during CSFA’s annual conference, ensuring representation from various geographic areas across California. We believe in the power of regional perspectives and their contribution to our decision-making processes.

CSFA membership is open to all firefighters, fire service professionals, and fire service organizations in California.
