On Feb. 21, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) published multiple Notices of Funding Opportunities totaling $18 million in funds for its pipeline and hazardous materials safety programs.
Funding will be used to improve community and environmental safety through projects that train first responders, educate the public on local safety initiatives, encourage the development of new pipeline technologies, and more.

Hazardous Materials Safety Grants
Applications for the following FY 2024 Hazardous Materials Safety grants are due by April 5, 2024.

- Hazardous Materials Instructor Training (HMIT) – $4 million – 693JK324NF0009.
- Hazardous Materials State Inspection (HMSI) – $1.9 million – 693JK324NF0001.
- Assistance for Local Emergency Response Training (ALERT) – $1.5 million – 693JK324NF0010.
- Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) Tribal Grant Program – $1 million – 693JK324NF0007.
- Supplemental Public Sector Training (SPST) – $1 million – 693JK324NF0011.
- Community Safety (CS) – $1 million – 693JK324NF0012.
Pipeline Safety Grants
