The California State Fair and Food Festival celebrates the best of the Golden State and on First Responders Day (Thursday, July 27) two-person teams of first responders will compete during the annual “Dinner 911!” cooking challenge. First Responders face off in a live cooking challenge at the California State Fair. Teams of two firefighters, police officers and emergency medical technicians will use a mystery ingredient to prepare a 3-course meal in front of a live fair audience and a panel of qualified Judges in the State Fair’s Cooking Theatre. The format follows the Food Network’s “Chopped” show, as teams shop from a stocked pantry and must include a “mystery” ingredient announced only minutes before the competition. Qualifying rounds begin at noon, with the final round starting at 6 p.m. A Golden Bear Trophy and bragging rights go to the top finisher and State Fair Ribbons are awarded to other finishers. Space is limited and it is first-come first served to accommodate teams.
