Tributes to first responders and the nation’s military were in top form on July 27 at the California State Fair in Sacramento. A highlight of the day was the dedication of the Wildland Firefighter Memorial at Camp Smokey. First responders enjoyed free admission to the fair, while special events and booths with resources for first responders and the military were highlighted throughout the sprawling fairgrounds.
CSFA’s RV 1 was on hand with CSFA staffers dispensing goodie bags of CSFA-branded items, networking with firefighters, and offering CSFA attire for sale to fairgoers. Following a solemn posting of the colors and a bagpipe procession, dignitaries from the U.S. Forest Service, Cal Fire and Firefighters Burn Institute unveiled the Wildland Firefighter Memorial that will be a permanent display on the Cal Expo grounds near Camp Smokey. The memorial is dedicated to the bravery and commitment to service of all wildland firefighters.
